Item Name: Logan State Building

Description:

Constructed and installed in 2012 for the main entrance to the Logan WV State Office Building and commissioned by the architectural firm McKinley & Associates. This custom quilt design is the largest solid window Amanda's Glass Art has ever constructed; it is 68"w x 68"h which is a 4" less than a 6 foot square. This custom window contains traditional quilt patterns like the flying geese and features much more. The asymmetrical focal point of the window is the quilt square designed to represent the state of West Virginia. Some other images are a coal tipple in the mountains, the old Logan County Courthouse, and the letters "WV." My favorite block features the two arrowheads which represent the Native American artifacts that were found on this jobsite during construction which resulted in an archeological dig site. Another reason this commission was so special was the thoughtfulness of our contact at McKinley & Associates, Thom Worlledge. Thom submitted this stained glass window to the annual American Institute of Architects West Virginia Chapter Awards Competition in the Craftsmanship Category. It was a design award submission and Amanda's Glass Art won this Craftsmanship Award in April of 2013 for "Excellence in Execution of Craft"!
